1969 OMEGA Flightmaster
Chronograph Pilots Wristwatch
Ref. 145.013
Cal. 910
"Introducing the Omega Flightmaster, a pilot's watch that has rather more than a revolving bezel."
During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Tool chronographs were all the rage, a trend for which Omega deserves significant credit. In this era, Omega produced a variety of chronographs designed for different uses, one of the most notable being the Omega Flightmaster. This iconic chronograph was a variant of the Omega Speedmaster series, specifically designed for pilots, and was produced from 1969 to 1977.
The Omega Flightmaster was crafted with pure functionality in mind, tailored for commercial pilots and frequent travelers. In fact, Omega even engraved a Douglass DC-8 onto the caseback as a nod to its aviation heritage.
"Omega Flightmaster, a watch for the men who pilot the big jets, or the Sunday hedgehoppers. It is the most useful cockpit watch ever devised, with 7 hands and 5 dials, yet easy to read."
Now, we present a truly special timepiece highly collectible first-generation Omega Flightmaster reference 145.013 from 1969. This unique chronograph series, which began in 1969 and ran until around 1974, was the first Omega watch to feature a chronograph GMT complication.
This manual-wind watch is powered by its original Omega mechanical movement, caliber 910, which includes a chronograph complication with a sweeping second hand, a 30-minute sub-dial, and up to a 12-hour sub-dial. With 17 jewels, a 24-hour sub-dial featuring a day/night indicator, a GMT blue hand (for the second time zone), a 40-hour power reserve, and operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, this Swiss-made watch perfectly balances classic design with robust functionality.
The movement is a modified version of the caliber 861 found in the Speedmaster. The Flightmaster features five crowns/pushers and seven hands, making it an extremely practical tool for pilots and navigation officers.
Housed in a distinctive 44.5mm tank tonneau case with a sleek lug design, all crafted from stainless steel, this watch also features a black inner bidirectional rotating bezel. The caseback is engraved with a Douglass DC-8, characteristic of this model.
The original tropical (chocolate) dial displays some light patina and aging, adding to its vintage charm. It features white stick hour markers and a black minute track with a unique design, along with white and orange matching hands. The central orange chronograph second hand beautifully complements the 30-minute sub-dial at 3 o'clock and the 12-hour sub-dial at 6 o'clock. The 24-hour sub-dial at 9 o'clock is marked in green to indicate the night hours. The dial is also signed with the Omega name and logo at the top, and "Flightmaster" below.
The watch comes with the original Omega stainless-steel bracelet, which fits a wrist up to 7” (17.8 cm).
This Omega Flightmaster runs smoothly and keeps excellent time!
